The China Coast Guard claims that a dangerous encounter between vessels near the waters of Ren’ai Jiao in China’s Nansha Qundao was the fault of the Philippines. The CCG stated that two Philippine coast guard vessels, a public service vessel, and a supply ship intruded in the waters of Ren’ai Jiao without permission from the Chinese government. The CCG took control measures over the Philippine vessels in accordance with the law, after one of the Philippine vessels swerved in an unprofessional and dangerous manner, leading to a slight collision with a CCG vessel. The CCG placed responsibility for the incident squarely on the Philippine side. Additionally, the CCG claimed that four Philippine vessels attempted to deliver construction materials to the Philippines’ illegally “grounded” warship at Ren’ai Jiao, which seriously violated China’s territorial sovereignty. The CCG released these statements in response to the encounter.
