The Geysers in Lake and Sonoma counties experienced a series of earthquakes on Friday afternoon, with the largest being a preliminary magnitude 4.2 earthquake at 1:28 p.m., followed by a magnitude 2.5 earthquake at 1:32 p.m. and a magnitude 3.0 quake at 2:23 p.m. These earthquakes occurred approximately 38 miles from Santa Rosa. The Santa Rosa Fire Department received reports from residents who either felt the magnitude 4.2 quake or received a notification. The Geysers is the world’s largest geothermal field and is known for its power plants that draw steam from mountain wells to create electricity.
